Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.O) announced on Sunday that it will be having a sale for its loyalty-club members. This is similar to its Prime Day summer marketing blitz, and it is meant to boost holiday sales and attract shoppers who are trying to save money because of the economy.
Amazon said that the “Prime Early Access Sale” will begin on October 11 at midnight Pacific Daylight Time (0700 GMT) and last for 48 hours in 15 countries.
Vice President Jamil Ghani told Reuters that customers had to deal with a “macroeconomic environment” and that’s why Amazon had a second deals event this year.
In an interview, he said, “There’s a desire to save money and make a dollar go further.”
Ghani wouldn’t say how the event’s sales would compare to Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales in the fall or to Prime Day in July.
Some customers sign up for Amazon Prime so they can take advantage of these member-only sales and shop more on Amazon.
